
Dr. Norma Cavazos, a graduate of Mission High School, obtained a BS in Biology with Honors from the University of Texas Pan American. Upon graduation she taught high school science at La Joya ISD for three years, before obtaining her DO degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1994. Dr. Cavazos completed a residency and served as Chief Resident in the department of family medicine at Columbia Medical Center/Dallas Southwest. In 1997 Dr. Cavazos returned to La Joya, TX and established a private practice before relocating to Mission, TX.
Dr. Cavazos has been involved with Doctors Hospital at Renaissance, since its conception, served as Chief of Staff from 2009-2011, and is currently the Ex Officio Chief of Staff. She is also a current DHR Board Member, and serves in the Finance, Tumor Board, Joslyn Diabetes, Credentialing, EMR Physician, Practice Improvement, Research Advisory, and Excellence at Renaissance Committees. Dr. Cavazos involvement in the community includes being the head physician for the local hockey team, The Killer Bees and for the local arena football team, The Dorados. She serves as the president of the Physician Health Organization and Rio-1, a community partnership formed of 350 local physicians and hospitals designed for Health Information Exchange. Dr. Cavazos participates in various research studies with UT Health Science Center in San Antonio, is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine in the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and is a preceptor for the Physician Assistant Program at the University of Texas Pan American.
